100 Things

I got this idea via Midlife Voice.

1. I'm 50.
2. I never dreamed I'd ever be this old.
3. I like being the age I am.
4. I have a partner.
5. We have been together 16 years.
6. She is a counselor.
7. I have had the same job for 23+ years.
8. I am a letter carrier.
9. I really like what I do.
10. I am outside 6-8 hours a day.
11. I have a college degree, a B.S.
12. For my job I only need a GED.
13. Oh, well.
14. I am a native Texan.
15. I have lived in Texas all 50 years.
16. I was born in south Texas.
17. I was adopted at birth.
18. I moved to west Texas (Spur) when I was 3 days old.
19. I grew up there with one sister and two parents.
20. She was adopted, too.
21. My mother was an English and Speech teacher.
22. She was my teacher in the 8th grade and the 12th grade.
23. That sucked.
24. My father owned a butcher shop and ice plant.
25. My first job was sacking crushed ice in a freezing vault.
26. My second job was wrapping hamburger meat.
27. I used to watch the whole slaughter process.
28. Now I can't imagine doing that.
29. My father died when I was 17.
30. My mother died when I was 43.
31. Sometimes I think I would like to go back to my home town.
32. If I moved back the population would increase to 1001.
33. I have also lived in Lubbock and Amarillo.
34. I never think of moving there.
35. I have lived in the Dallas area for 26 years.
36. I live in Dallas proper.
37. I only commute 3.5 miles to work.
38. That is great.
39. I am a Democrat.
40. There aren't many of us in Dallas.
41. There aren't many in Texas.
42. I found my birth family 14 years ago.
43. I met my natural mother.
44. I also found I had a brother and sister in that family.
45. It was weird.
46. I attend two family reunions a year.
47. One with my mother's (who raised me) family.
48. One with my birth mother's family.
49. I embrace them all.
50. I like to fish.
51. I feel sorry for the fish when I pull the hook out though.
52. I am glad they can't scream.
53. I like to surf.
54. The internet ... not the big waves.
55. I like to sing karaoke.
56. I like to work in the yard.
57. I like doing projects that change the look of my house.
58. I guess they call that DIY home improvement.
59. We have 7 dogs.
60. They are all very spoiled.
61. We have 4 cats.
62. They, too are spoiled.
63. We have lovebirds and cockatiels.
64. Somedays we have cocktails.
65. One cockatiel can whistle the entire Andy Griffith song.
66. I taught him that.
67. The other one can sneeze repetitively.
68. My partner taught him that accidently.
69. The lovebirds just breed alot.
70. I have travelled over most of the United States.
71. I have been to Mexico, Canada, Norway, Denmark,and Sweden.
72. At this stage of my life I would rather not go anywhere.
73. I love to be at home.
74. I do not like to talk on the phone.
75. I do not like to just sit and visit.
76. A lot of my friends I have had for 25-30+ years.
77. They describe me as funny, but not fun.
78. I go to bed early by choice.
79. I also get up early even when I don't have to.
80. My hair is a very salty pepper.
81. I have only dyed it once in my life.
82. It has been getting gray for 25 years.
83. I used to be 5'9", now I am about 5'8".
85. How short will I get???
86. I am very healthy right now. Thank God.
87. I started smoking when I was 17 to be cool.
88. I quit smoking when I was 34 to be smart. Thank God.
89. I had other destructive behaviors in my younger years.
90. My most ongoing destructive behavior is too much sun.
91. My favorite drug today is sugar and ibuprofen.
92. I believe in a Higher Power.
93. I do not attend church.
94. I am a recovering Southern Baptist.
95. I like the person I have become.
96. I never say I wish I was 20 or 30, etc. again.
97. The journey has taken 50 years.
98. The good has definitely outweighed the bad.
99. I am happy more than not.
100. My cup runneth over.

That was fun following your route, Amanda. Glad to know I'm not the only one shrinking! Must be a 50 thing.
